The Empowered Employee is Coming; Is The World Ready? »

In its early years, Toyota used this approach to help focus frontline assembly line workers on the challenge of identifying and solving problems (again, those nasty exceptions) as they arose on the assembly line and provided them with a work environment that included the tools and support required to be more effective at creating problem solving. Something amazing happened. Not only did performance rapidly improve, but workers became passionate about their work. They could see that they were making a difference. Just as engaged customers become passionate about the products they use, employees that can see their performance improving and the impact they are achieving tend to become passionate about their work. Then a virtuous cycle sets in. The more passionate employees become, the more focused they become on performance improvement and the more impact they have, the greater their passion.

I Didn't Tell Facebook I'm Engaged, So Why Is It Asking About My Fiancé? »

David Kilpatrick uncovered that Facebook ‘could determine with about 33 percent accuracy who a user was going to be in a relationship with a week from now.’  […]

So why does Facebook care to know more about the nature of my relationship to Nick? The short answer is that Facebook wants to know as much as it can about my relationships, even though Facebook’s currentpolicy is not use information from user questions like this one for advertising.

In Alexis Madrigal’s response to Zadie Smith he writes, “You get to determine your level of investment in the digital world around you. You get to choose the people you listen and talk to. You have control over your data. You get to define who you are, no matter what your Facebook profile says. All that is not lost unless we choose to lose it.”

New ad uses facial recognition software to show video to women only.

The ad that’s being shown is for a campaign that’s working to improve education options for young women in developing countries, whose access is limited simply because they are girls. It’s being run by Plan, a children’s charity that works to improve life in the world’s poorest countries.
A Plan rep explains why they felt it was important to create a sex-specific ad: “We’re not giving men the choice to see the full ad so they get a glimpse of what it’s like to have basic choices taken away.”
